Spice Up Your Yoga Routine

We have to mix things up to stay inspired!

Practice with new teachers that offer different perspectives from a range of traditions.

In your regular practice if you regularly move slow, speed it up!

If you like to move fast, slow down!

Create a shift in perspective to see things through a different colored lens.

Cat Acquaviva

I like to throw the rules out the window.

When I’m alone in the mornings, I throw on some high-energy music and just move around in whatever way feels good.

Unlike a lot of yogis, I have zero dance experience so it’s hard for me to be intentionally graceful.

So my home practice is all about experimenting with different ways to connect point A to point B and sussing out how to wake up different body parts.

Molly O’Neill

If I want to spice it up during a home practice, I’ll play one of my high-energy ‘Hip Boom’ workouts from Spotify, and blend a strong yoga sequence with some dance and repetitious toning exercises.

I usually start off with yoga and then weave it through a dynamic workout, ending with more yoga.

It works my entire body in a different way than a straight asana practice, which I also love to do. I like to mix it up and give my body some variety.

Aarona Ganesan

Add some variety to your music!

I change up my music and sometimes play my happy playlist which has reggae, Disney tunes, Rocky Horror Picture Show songs, etc.

Rina Jakubowicz

The way I spice up my yoga practice is by listening to a new playlist I’ve created, or joining a friend at a yoga studio.

I mostly practice at home, so it’s always exciting to practice in a different location.

Faith Hunter

I’m always changing up my yoga routine.

When I take class, I like to try other studios and classes I may not get to as often.

Meditation, new teachers, even hitting up a hot yoga class—I find that keeps me inspired and fresh for my own practice.

Jen Elliott

Close your eyes.

Turn off your music and get quiet. Listen to your breath.

Step forward and back using your inner eye, your memory, and your intuition.

See the color and feel the texture of your breath with your imagination.

Be open to lingering where the body wants to linger.

It will radically slow you down and wake you up to the little treasures.
