I Was Truly Challenged When...

From my teenage years through my mid-twenties I kept spinning this web of chaos because I couldn’t handle stillness.

When I took my first teacher training, it forced me to wake up and look at the life I was living, and I saw that it was totally at odds with my true self and my potential.

The process of disentangling myself from that life and getting to know the real Molly was incredibly painful and challenging, but also boundlessly rewarding.

I was truly challenged when I left my friends and boyfriend behind in my absolute favorite city and moved to Los Angeles last year.

I was truly challenged when I was going through my divorce.

I told myself and my ex-husband I wouldn’t let the divorce be in vain and I would make sure that I would work on myself and help myself heal and evolve and ultimately find myself again.

Out of that challenge came the birth of my book, Choose Peace: A Practical Guide into Consciousness. In publishing, I kept my promise to him and myself.

Losing people I love in my life is the hardest thing for me.

I have overcome cancer scares, financial loss, depression, loneliness, and more, but focusing on hope each day helped me get through the difficult times.

One of the biggest life altering moments I’ve had was when I learned one of my favorite students had been hit by a car while riding his bike and passed away.

His death was a harsh reminder that our existence is quite short in the grand scheme of things, so spending all my time and energy living a life full of joy, happiness, kindness and compassion was the only choice.

I’ve been challenged in countless ways (we all have!) but one of the most difficult was when I was experiencing debilitating anxiety and depression.

I couldn’t handle life and felt like I was losing control of everything.

Over time and with many healthy changes and finally letting go, I am in a much better place.

Honestly, life is hard. I think it’s important to BE challenged (otherwise life would be awfully boring), but of course “challenge” can be defined very differently depending on context. A marathon is a physical challenge. Races are physically challenging. Teaching four classes in a row is sometimes physically challenging even if it is also quite enjoyable at the same time. Other things are mentally challenging. Applying for a graduate program is not an easy task, nor is completing a dissertation. These are the kinds of challenges that shape who you are.

Finally, we have emotional and spiritual challenges…

I am challenged frequently

On the road teaching and performing, I live a life with few comforts of home.

I like it this way for this season of my life because I get to meet amazing people who teach me so much.

It keeps me plugged in and hungry for guidance.

But alas, I am not bullet proof.

I struggle, I doubt, I get crazy lonely out on the road.

I rescued a dog and she helps ground me a ton, but community and accountability are top priorities for me right now.

I have amazing people “on the team” and it’s simply a matter of making it known that sometimes I need help.

So to answer the question: Asking for help challenges me greatly. It is a daily practice just like handstand training. ;)
