Advice for Avoiding Injuries

I take my rest days as seriously as I take my training days.

As a runner, I like to think of my rest days as one giant savasana.

This is the time for my body to absorb all of the work I have done prior to the rest.

Without this, my muscles don’t have time to refresh, restore, recover, and get stronger.

Honor the rest as much as you honor the work.

Bedtime Ritual

I always make a giant glass (big mason jar) of tea.

My favorites are ginger, lemon, or mint. I sip it while cuddling my puppy on the couch.

About 30 minutes before bed I put my phone on silent and away for the night.

It works for me because I am usually on the go, go, go all day and this lets me wind down slowly.

Book I Re-Read

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown, which reminds me to unapologetically be ME.

Favorite Quote

“Success is determined by how determined you are to succeed.”

This quote has spoken to me since I was very young.

I heard it on TV during an Olympic figure skating competition and I never forgot it.

It’s a constant reminder that I am in control of my success.

When I set a vision for something, my determination to make it happen is what usually gets me there!

Health "Secret" Everyone Should Know

Aquaphor is the universe’s gift to runners—and humans in general!

Not only is it great to prevent chafing but also prevents chapped lips/face during pesky winter/windy months.

I put it on my face at night—especially on dry spots—and sometimes mix it with hand lotion.

You can buy it at any pharmacy and it’s inexpensive.

In fact, I just found 3 almost empty tubes in my bathroom. You know you’re a runner when…

I Feel Powerful When...

Setting a vision and going for it makes me feel powerful.

When I have goals I’m working towards, the journey there makes me feel powerful.

While there are always setbacks along the path to achieving goals, there are also moments that get me closer.

And when those moments happen, I definitely stand a little taller and walk a little prouder.

Most Important Running Advice

HAVE FUN!

Make sure running feels like play.

Know that sometimes it’s OK to take an Uber home when you’re 10 miles into a 16 mile run. 😉

Smoothie of Choice

My favorite smoothie recipe is always evolving, but when I want one to propel me through my day, I usually revert to the Pink Power Detox Smoothie.

Ingredients:
• 1 cup coconut water or water

• 1 cup baby kale or spinach

• 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries

• 1 small/medium raw red beet, peeled and chopped

• 1 orange, peeled

• 1 lemon, juiced

• 1 in. piece, peeled fresh ginger

• 1 tsp coconut oil

• Ice

Spice Up Your Running Routine

I put on a killer playlist that alternates between one heavy, hard-hitting song and one chill song.

Here’s what that looks like:

• 20-minute warmup
• 1 song ON (tempo pace) / 1 song OFF (recovery pace) — x3
• 10-minute cool down

Dream Superpower

Flight.

I have always been enamored with flying. Something about being free, outside, and getting places quickly seems so appealing and fun. Sometimes running fast feels like flying, so I think true flight must be that much more amazing!
