The Mudbug Brass Band is an 8 piece New Orleans Jazz Band that is based in Los Angeles, California since 2011. With roots from Louisiana, this band is dedicated to the “Second Line” tradition of the Crescent City drawing from New Orleans traditional Jazz, R&B, Funk and Mardi Gras. Each of their performances is a celebration of the « Birth of Jazz » which was pioneered by New Orleans greats over a century ago.

Being Louisiana natives, the three founding members are proud to share their culture and heritage with Southern California. Imagine walking the streets of New Orleans circa 1915, where early Jazz was thriving from the
“Red Light District” of Storyville to the street parades and pleasure clubs of “The Big Easy.” They have embodied that spirit and combined it with the direction that modern New Orleans brass bands like the Dirty Dozen, Rebirth and the Hot 8 have taken. Whether on the stage or in the streets, they have performed for numerous events including the grand reopening of UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion and the 75th Anniversary of LA’s Union Station. The Los Angeles Times featured them as they led the “Walk the Talk” parade through the streets of downtown LA for the Los Angeles Poverty Department.

For the past four years, Mudbug has honed in their unique sound as well as their show. The polyphonic texture created by the band is due to independent melodies being played around a dominant theme. This is what makes the music of New Orleans so exciting and Mudbug delivers each note with a level of authority and authenticity. Recently, they have focused on writing new material that blends all of the flavors of New Orleans with a modern sensibility. The result is an explosion of sound that is extremely infectious and intelligent.
