Emily Benning

About

Born and raised in northern Vermont, Emily fell into an intense love affair with the outdoors at a very early age. (This is a good thing, since there’s not much to do in northern Vermont if you don’t like being outside.) Her high school and college summers were spent deep in the back country working on trail crews around Vermont, and later years led to work and long hikes in western Texas and New Zealand. Eventually Emily walked her way back to Vermont to work for the Green Mountain Club doing trail maintenance in the summers, and a ski resort in the winter to maximize the “play for paycheck” philosophy. During her time with the GMC, Emily thru-hiked the Long Trail (by herself, in the rain) and has completed it in sections at least twice, all while working. If you’ve hiked anywhere in Vermont- or ever used a privy on the trail!- Emily has probably passed through with an axe and a shovel.
