“Health is often thought of as a detox, a fast, a cleanse—but that’s not a sustainable approach. I have never seen anything successful long term when people attack it with fear.” – Amanda Bacon
Health is something we tend to under appreciate until it’s gone. In this talk from Wanderlust’s Speakeasy, Amanda Bacon, healthy lifestyle advocate and founder of the Los Angeles-based company Moon Juice, shares her story of triumph and failure on her journey to wellness.
As a teen, Amanda was plagued with a series of health and breathing issues that baffled doctors. Putting her faith in Western medicine, she dutifully took the pills they prescribed, getting no better in the process. It was only after a fortuitous meeting with an Ayurvedic practitioner that she decided to explore other options. Using a combination of dietary change, herbal remedies, meditation, and yoga she was able to find a solution to her medical problems. She has now made it her passion to share this knowledge with the world.
In this lecture she also covers her five building blocks for wellness:
- Eating more raw foods
- Alkalizing the body
- Controlling sugar intake
- Consuming good healthy fats
- Eating cultured/fermented foods
“Just fall in love a little harder with your plant foods, and share that with people—we need you out there loving the food and feasting on that.” – Amanda Bacon
