Mantra When Life Gets Tough

Mantras and affirmations have been my main focus since working on The Moon Deck over the past two years.

During this process, each card that I worked on exposed its lesson with an extra punch – teaching me first hand the power of feeling feelings and then transforming them into supportive mantras rather than falling prey to the inner critic many of us can fall victim to.

Because I’m pretty sensitive and have a tendency to overthink things or internalize more than I need to – teaching myself to mentally and vocally speak in a more productive and loving tone has been a deeply rewarding practice. It’s quite literally changed the way I view the world and the type of opportunities and people I’ve attracted into my life. It’s still a major work in progress, but I am loving the ride and finally experiencing the rewards.

I have so many I’d love to share, but here are my top three mantras that have been helping me along the way: “I focus on what is working” – I use this mantra all the time, because it reminds me to focus on all of the great things that actually are working well in my life rather than fixating on the imperfections.

This simple shift in perspective (although requires an enormous amount of practice) has made a hugely positive shift on my mental space as well as my immune system! Our health is impacted by the stress we put onto our body, and if we’re too busy worrying about all that isn’t, we will tap our system and our energy. Focus on what is working for the next 7 days and see what happens.

“I love myself completely and unconditionally” – If more of us could experience this level of self-love as our default, the world would be a very different place. I deeply believe that self-love impacts universal love (and vice versa). When I say this mantra to myself, I simultaneously soften and brighten up.

My posture improves and my perspective is uplifted, which creates a totally different energy that others pick up on. I use this mantra whenever I notice myself talking down to myself, or when I feel more vulnerable and need the reminder. It works like a charm and will start to have long term benefits the more you keep telling yourself you are worth it!

“When I let others shine I shine too” – This is a great one for those of us working in an industry where many personalities, talents, and ideas are at play. For me, it’s a reminder that there is plenty for all of us and I adore the unique beauty we each bring to the playing field. I personally use this mantra when I notice myself comparing myself to others. I really believe that the more we let others shine without feeling ‘left out’, self-doubt, or competitive – the more we ourselves will shine. This mantra asks that we feel an inner confidence that is both radiant and welcoming.
