Labradorite: For Clarity, Communication, and Creativity

Everything you need to know about labradorite.

Crystals can be powerful—if you know how to use them. Use this handy guide to decode the clairvoyance of labradorite, and bring some of that clarity to your practice with labradorite jewelry from Silver & Sage

Known as the stone of Atlantis, labradorite is the stone of all things mystical, magical, and intuitive. It is associated with clairvoyance, and helps aid communication with your higher self and the spirit realm. Its color ranges from glowing blue to natural green, similar to something that you would see in the ocean. Because it’s formed from aggregate layers, it refracts light and often appears to be shimmering, reflecting colors of gold or pale red. It’s one of the most recently-discovered stones, unearthed in (and named for!) Labrador, Canada in 1770.

Healing Properties

Because labradorite is linked to intuition, it can help boost harmonious thinking and heal mental blocks. This allows you to reconnect to your instinct and inner power. In the same way that labradorite can boost congenial internal thinking, so too is it thought to increase communication between people working together, paving the way for new discoveries and creativity.

Wearing or Using the Stone

This is a great stone to help support anxieties, and should be used in times of turmoil or transformation. Labradorite helps to reduce stress and stimulate mental clarity. It is also believed to help detoxify the body; in some cultures labradorite is even said to hold anti-aging powers.

Fun Facts

There are many types of this stone, but Spectrolite, the most valued type of labradorite, comes from Finland. Because of the way it captures and refracts light—making it dance like fire—labradorite was known to the Native Americans as firestone. The sister stone to Moonstone, labradorite is also a member of the feldspar mineral family.

Myths and legends connected to labradorite focus on the moon, psychical abilities, and shamanism. Inuit legend says that labradorite fell from the frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis (the Northern Lights). All myths tie the stone to being that of visionaries.
