Today\u2019s an important day, friends!<\/strong>
\nIt\u2019s the one you\u2019re living in, it\u2019s the one you\u2019ve got to work with, and it\u2019s all you need.<\/p>\n

If I had a dollar for every time I disavowed my work, body, art, social skills (I was the kid who cried when strangers talked to her), relationships, etc.\u2014giving up on them because they didn\u2019t match the\u00a0ideal version living in my head, I\u2019d have so many freaking dollars.<\/p>\n

I keep seeing my friends do this to themselves, too. Either we write off our creations<\/a> because they\u2019re messy and \u201ctoo\u201d far away from what we think they should be, or we just waste a lot\u00a0of time between the moment we generate an exciting idea and the moment we finally execute it optimally, wishing the hard part would be over and we could magically arrive at perfection.<\/p>\n

  1. Nothing works like this.<\/li>\n
  2. The messiness isn\u2019t just unavoidable, it\u2019s also a necessary part of the creative process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We need a certain amount of chaos to innovate.<\/strong>
    \nIf we\u2019re going to arrive at a new way of looking at the world (which is what art does), we have to     shake things up<\/a>, jolt ourselves into challenging territory, get ourselves into situations where we truly have no idea what\u2019s coming next or how we\u2019re going to come up with a solution.<\/p>\n

    And what if, during these moments where we feel a hundred thousand miles away from our goal, we not only didn\u2019t give up on ourselves<\/a> but also started to actually\u00a0enjoy<\/strong>\u00a0the haphazard manuscript, fumbling handstand, muddy canvas, or the sketchy business plan\u2014because that’s what our life is right now, and\u00a0it’s not going to last long anyway.<\/p>\n

    What then?\u00a0<\/strong>
    \nGood things, I think.<\/p>\n
