The name aventurine<\/em> comes from Italian, translating roughly to “by chance.” According to legend, the name was first used\u00a0when glassmakers accidentally mixed copper fillings into the glass mixture. The result was a product that seemed to sparkle from the inside-out, and this style\u00a0of glassmaking persisted for many years. The name was then applied to similar naturally-occurring phenomena, which is why the natural stone\u00a0shares its name with a manmade product.<\/p>\n
