This may make us feel productive, but when we live in chaos we sacrifice the blissful benefits of slowing down. This idea isn\u2019t new to yogis. Most yogis\u00a0carve out\u00a0a few hours every week to find patience, take\u00a0things slow, and relish\u00a0the here and now. The ability to be\u00a0truly present, to truly live in\u00a0the moment, is something we strive for both on\u00a0and off the mat, and this includes <a href=\"http:\/\/wanderlust.com\/journal\/feed-soul-mindful-meals\/\" target=\"_blank\">mealtime<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For thousands of years, food has been a form of communication between people\u2014fulfilling\u00a0both a physical necessity and an emotional activity. In the highlands of Ethiopia, friends and families would sit around a large table and eat from one large communal tray, using pieces of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">injera<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to scoop up a variation of flavorful stews. Traditional Hawaiian luaus are known for their celebration of food, music, and friendship. These <a href=\"http:\/\/wanderlust.com\/journal\/the-recipe-for-a-perfect-picnic\/\" target=\"_blank\">time-honored traditions<\/a> are more than just nourishment for the body\u2014they feed the soul as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Feeding the Soul Through Process<\/h3>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not just the shared experience of communal eating that relates to the emotional aspect of mealtimes. There&#8217;s a reason that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slowfood.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Slow Food movement<\/a> has gained traction in recent years: People are beginning to tire of racing from one thing to the next. Many people\u2014not exclusively yogis\u2014are seeking a more intentional lifestyle, and this pertains to the food we eat.<\/p>\n<p>Intentional eating can seem a daunting task in a market saturated with confusing labels and delineations. In nearly all cases, it&#8217;s best to seek out the basics\u2014to look for identifiable ingredients and proven methods. Oftentimes, food companies that have stood the test of time stand out&#8230; Even as the companies have grown and changed,\u00a0craftsmanship has not.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maille.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maille<\/a> is one of these companies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 18th-century Paris, marketeer\u00a0Antoine-Claude Maille set out to get his line of mustards and vinegars into the hands of royals, knowing that if he had the monarch&#8217;s approval it wouldn&#8217;t be long before they\u00a0were must-haves for civilians as well. To do so, his products\u00a0had to be the finest in the world\u2014so he pushed barriers until he had landed on the perfect recipes and hand-crafted processes.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A lot has changed since 1747, but Maille&#8217;s methods have not. Ever since the king threw his support behind a bottle of Maille mustard, the\u00a0company (specializing in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maille.com\/en_US\/mustards\/all-mustards\/\" target=\"_blank\">mustard<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maille.com\/en_US\/cornichons\/\" target=\"_blank\">cornichons<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maille.com\/en_US\/other-products\/oils-%26-dressings\/\" target=\"_blank\">dressings<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maille.com\/en_US\/vinegars\/all-vinegars\/\" target=\"_blank\">vinegars<\/a>) has consistently maintained a loving and mindful attitude towards their products. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Tradition, Not Stagnation<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite its\u00a0appreciation towards tradition, Maille remains one of the most innovative brands in the foodie world. They created the mustard-seed cutting method over 200 years ago, a technique that leads\u00a0to superb and flavorful products. It\u2019s as alive as it always was, thriving and blossoming as more and more people garner a practice. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Why Keep Traditions<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But traditions aren\u2019t just a way for us to pay respect to our heritage\u2014they can literally make us happier. Maintaining tradition helps promote communication and connection. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=psychological+benefits+of+tradition&amp;oq=psychol&amp;aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0l4.1642j0j4&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research has shown that rituals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, from annual camping trips to daily dinners, can help families bond and form a strong group identity. On a larger scale, this helps instill a sense of belonging and allows us to think of souls other than our own. We can welcome these <a href=\"http:\/\/wanderlust.com\/journal\/giving-gift-best-self\/\" target=\"_blank\">traditions<\/a>, whether it\u2019s lighting the Menorah or going for ice cream before the first day of school, with a respectful and open mind, allowing them to grow along with their practitioners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the same way, when a company like Maille follows the same methodology for hundreds of years, that spirit of tradition infuses its products and intention carries over.
