{"id":213217,"date":"2020-03-23T11:28:28","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T15:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/?p=213217"},"modified":"2020-07-08T23:31:41","modified_gmt":"2020-07-09T03:31:41","slug":"gina-caputo-waking-up-from-conditioned-consciousness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/es\/journal\/gina-caputo-waking-up-from-conditioned-consciousness\/","title":{"rendered":"Gina Caputo: Waking Up from Conditioned Consciousness"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the world grapples with the shift toward social isolation, managing pandemic-related stress, and an uncertain future, we at Wanderlust know that our greatest strengths are the wisdom of our leaders and the power of community.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have reached out to the lighthouses in our teaching community to <\/span><b>share some succinct, actionable insights with our community<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as <\/span><b>to call on us to be bold and envision how this shift can create a better world. <\/b>Because extraordinary times call for extraordinary leadership.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h3>COPING IN THE PRESENT<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-213361\" src=\"https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Gina_log_walk1-768x960.jpg\" alt=\"gina log walk\" width=\"400\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Gina_log_walk1-768x960.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Gina_log_walk1-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Gina_log_walk1.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>In sailing these uncharted waters, I\u2019m looking to my North Stars, the teachers who have guided me from the beginning. It makes sense to me to seek the teachers who know the nature of suffering best, the Buddhists. The first books I reached for are <strong>Pema Chodron<\/strong>\u2019s. So, I\u2019m refreshing myself with her wisdom and have <strong>doubled down on my own Vipassana meditation practice<\/strong> as a place of refuge in the storm. I\u2019m doing intense work with evaluating my relationship with uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m making a point of <strong>prioritizing self-care<\/strong> like music, cooking and working out and am seeking considerate and creative ways to move forward as a Yoga teacher when all my events have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. It\u2019s a fine balance between efforts that are of service to people in immediate need, efforts that may sustain me through this period of no work and efforts that will have a lasting impact on the future of Yoga and Yoga teachers.<\/p>\n<p>This I know is true: <strong>WE CAN DO HARD THINGS<\/strong>. Once we are able to sit with the friction of our resistance long enough, we\u2019ll transmute that energy into forging a new future, a new reality together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong>ANSWERING THE CALL<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The thing I really don\u2019t want us to miss is that this pandemic is a rough wake up call out of conditioned consciousness. Not a gentle nudge to wakefulness but a rough rousing from the sleep of ignorance.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re being given a profound opportunity to look WITHIN. We want to look out, to look around. We want answers! But quarantine is an invitation into retreat with ourselves. To explore our conditioned consciousness and the causes of suffering both within ourselves and in the world we share. When all normalcy has been taken away and we\u2019re forced to work with that, we\u2019ll emerge with more appreciation, more sensitivity and a deeper understanding of life that generates compassion.<\/p>\n<p>This virus is a great teacher and from it, great spiritual awakening can come, if we\u2019re willing to completely change the ways we perceive ourselves, each other and the world around us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-213348 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Gina_300.png\" alt=\"gina caputo\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Gina_300.png 300w, https:\/\/wanderlust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Gina_300-185x185.png 185w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ginacaputo.com\/\">Gina Caputo<\/a>, E-RYT 500 is the founder of the Colorado School of Yoga and creatrix of Integrated Vinyasa\u2122 Yoga.
