Sarah Copeland: Have Your Cake and Your Vegetables, Too

Food expert Sarah Copeland says it’s up to you to decide whether to eat kale or cake—neither is inherently good nor bad all the time

Food expert Sarah Copeland isn’t going to tell you what to eat. She’s going to ask you a question that has nothing to do with food. She wants to know, “What do you want to feel like in your life?”

“It’s not a matter of what to eat and what not eat,” she says. “It’s a question of ‘What do I want to feel like in my life?‘ and, ‚If I felt amazing every day of my life, what would I do with that?‘ ”

Watch this Speakeasy from Wanderlust Stratton to learn:

  • What factors beyond the “what” of your eating you need to consider (hint: it involves “where” and “how”)
  • The importance of the dormant season—for food, for plants, and also for humans
  • Why pruning is a tough but crucial concept for both plant health and your own human relationships and lifestyle
  • Why sharing your knowledge is crucial to the well-being of your community (and yourself)

Copeland says it’s up to you to decide whether to eat kale or cake—neither is inherently good nor bad all the time. “Your body is a bank account,” she concludes. “You can’t just withdraw all the time. You need to make deposits, too, and some days a green juice is a deposit and some days a piece of cake is a deposit, and you have to decide what’s what.“
