Jasper: For Grounding, Healing, and Nurturing

Everything you need to know about jasper.

Crystals can be powerful—if you know how to use them. Use this handy guide to decode the grounding abilities of jasper, and bring some of that power to your practice with jasper jewelry from Silver & Sage

Jasper is an elemental Earth stone. It is made up of quartz, which comprises 12 percent of the Earth’s surface. As such, it’s very grounding, known as a nurturer and loving shield. Jasper is also a powerful healing, helping, and supportive stone. It allows us to be present in nature and to absorb the Earth’s frequencies. Fittingly, it is made up of Earth colors and can include browns, reds, and yellows. Because it often contains mineral oxides, many jaspers have varied patterns and multi-colored designs.

Healing Properties

Jasper is a powerful stone if you need to connect to your roots. Its calming and loving influence can help you feel feel peaceful and protected. Jasper inspires determination and perseverance against all odds. Yet while it encourages tenacity, jasper leads to assertiveness rather than aggression. Physically, it’s said to balance the body’s mineral content, and to help with digestion issues or symptoms of nausea.

Wearing or Using the Stone

This is a particularly good stone to wear or use if you are tuning into your psychic abilities, as it will help you keep your feet on the ground, so to speak. Jasper also helps overcome vices—it’s often used when people want to quit drinking or smoking. Because of its connection to the natural world, it is ideal to wear during meditation in the form of a mala or bracelet.

Fun Facts

This stone has been used for healing, décor, and jewelry since ancient times. It was used by the Egyptians as a burial amulet to help transition the dead into the next life, and shows up frequently in Greek, Hebrew, Assyrian, and even Latin scriptures. It was also used as a seal for cities and for religious purposes: It was one of the 12 stones featured on the breastplate worn by a Jewish High Priest. More practically, jasper was used by prehistoric man as a substance to make tools and weapons.
