About

AMB Logo 2013_SmallShawn is an international yoga teacher, activist, and writer whose intuitive approach guides practitioners to awaken through the alchemy of living yoga. Her work has been featured in publications ranging from Yoga Journal and OmYoga to SHAPE Magazine. What Shawn shares, she shares from the heart of her own integrated practice. From early seeds (she began at twelve years old) have sprung countless hours of initiation with master teachers and decades of immersive learning across the globe. Her offerings fuse Prana Flow Yoga with a background in Insight Meditation; today, she combines an academic anchoring in mystical poetry, eastern religious thought, and Sanskrit language studies with continual exploration of the ancient traditions and contemporary innovations of yoga and its ancillary arts. As a dedicated 500 E-RYT teacher trainer, Shawn serves as an assistant to world-renowned Shiva Rea and mentor in the Samudra Global School for Living Yoga. She is the Director of Programs for the nonprofit Anahata International, bringing trauma-sensitive wellness trainings and resources to conflict-affected communities in places like Rwanda and the West Bank. Shawn also co-founded the DC Global Mala – part of a worldwide event raising awareness and funds for issues such as global warming, fair trade, and equal education opportunities. Shawn studied English & Religious Studies at Georgetown and Oxford University, and earned an M.A. in Eastern Classics & Sanskrit at St. John’s College. She and her husband live in the high mountain desert of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
